Blast Off and COVID-19

Writer: Blast Off Katie Blast Off Katie

We have all heard about the EPA's approved disinfectant list, but could there be other cleaning options?

Recently, the CDC updated their cleaning guidelines to state that cleaning can REMOVE germs while disinfecting KILLS them. Since the COVID-19 outbreak began, we have stated that keeping surfaces clean with Super Blast Off will reduce your chances of contracting the virus because you are maintaining a clean surrounding. Obviously, we have all learned a lot more about how the virus is contracted and that it isn't spread easily (if at all) through surface contact; but this doesn't mean you shouldn't continue to keep surfaces clean! After all, we do have cold and flu season beginning, and maintaining the cleaning standards we all set during COVID may help to reduce your chances of getting sick this winter.

Although we 100% agree with the CDC's guidelines on cleaning, we can't help but wonder if perhaps Super Blast Off is capable of eradication as well. We have learned how soap can destroy the outer layer of the virus, and our products are a strong soap compound, but the US does not test these products to kill COVID, they only test pesticides. So we decided to start looking outside of the US for more information and how other countries are cleaning and made an amazing discovery!

The Japanese National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) performed a study for the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) and discovered that soap compounds can definitely kill COVID-19! They determined that if the soap compound contained more than .22% sodium fatty acids (Super Blast Off has .24% sodium fatty acids!) that the soap was capable of killing the virus if left on the surface for 5 minutes**! This is HUGE!!! They conducted the study because they wanted safer alternatives for cleaning in the country- and guess what? We meet that standard. Here's a link to the study if you want to learn more about it.

We want to encourage more people to give Super Blast Off a chance to keep their homes clean and help fight viruses like COVID-19 in your home. Pesticides, or as we all commonly call them "disinfectants", have to be registered and controlled by the EPA because they are harmful to the environment which means that they're probably harmful to you and your family.

Consumer Reports published an article stating the dangers of using too many disinfectants (pesticides!) in your home or in schools. Their study showed that it caused increased cases of asthma in adults and an increase in cases of upper respiratory infections and eye and skin irritation in children. (Read more on that study here.) The American Lung Association also followed various studies that reported similar findings and stated "Many cleaning supplies or household products can irritate the eyes or throat, or cause headaches and other health problems, including cancer. Some products release dangerous chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Other harmful ingredients include ammonia and bleach. Even natural fragrances such as citrus can react to produce dangerous pollutants indoors."

At Super Blast Off, we pride ourselves on creating the best cleaning experience by producing a cleaning product that can really do it all without the toxic effects of disinfectants.

**If you're looking to use Super Blast Off to do more than remove COVID from surfaces, please use our product in it's concentrated form for best results! The tests performed in Japan used concentrated levels of similar soap compounds.
